Before Your Treatment
Waxing and tweezing must be stopped completely when beginning your electrolysis journey. Tweezing causes hairs to grow back thicker and stronger as it sends more blood flow to the area. It will take much longer for the hairs to be permanently removed when they are being plucked from the root.
Trust me, I know it’s hard to get rid of the tweezers but it is essential for effective treatment.
Drink 100 ounces of water the day before, the day of, and the day after your appointment. Electrolysis works best on hydrated skin. This makes for a much more comfortable treatment for you. It is harder for the hair to be epilated on dry skin.
Stop shaving 3 to 4 days before your appointment. Hair must be 1/8 of an inch in order for it to be grabbed with tweezers.
Avoid caffeinated drinks before your treatment. Your skin will be less sensitive which will allow for a more comfortable experience.
If you wish, you can apply topical numbing cream 30 to 45 minutes before your treatment time to help ease any discomfort.
After Your Treatment
Avoid the sun and tanning beds for at least 48 hours after treatment. If you are going to be in the sun be sure to wear sunscreen with at least 30 SPF.
Redness and micro-scabbing after treatment are normal. This is nothing to worry about as it will subside. It is important that you do not pick at scabs as it will interrupt the healing process and cause hyperpigmentation. Apply aloe vera gel or Polysporin to the treated area until it is healed.
Do not apply any retinol to the treated area until it is healed as this can cause irritation.
I recommend to avoid activity that can cause a lot of sweating for at least 48 hours after treatment as this can cause irritation.
